Project Positions 
Applications are invited from Indian Nationals to work as Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in a research project funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). 

Title: Structure-function studies on Vibrio cholerae cytolysin, a membrane damaging, pore-forming toxin
This project is aimed toward understanding the structure-function relationship of a cytolytic beta-barrel pore-forming toxin produced by the Gram-negative bacteria Vibrio cholerae. We intend to apply diverse methods of biophysics, biochemistry, and cell biology to explore the structure-function mechanism of this Vibrio cholerae cytolysin protein.

Positions: 1

Duration: 2 years. Upon satisfactory performance employment may be extended for the 3rd year.

Emoluments: As per DST rules


Essential Qualifications: M.Sc.in any branch of Life Sciences with excellent academic record, and having passed the NET (CSIR/UGC/LS) or GATE exams (Payment of emoluments will be made in accordance with DST O.M. no.A.20020/11/97-IFD dtd.31.03.2010).

Title: Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) Comprised of Dimetal Units and Multi-Atom Organic Linkers
This project aims at synthesizing and structurally characterizing novel metal organic frameworks as well as their use in various applications. It will require broad synthetic skills with experience in handling air and moisture compounds under standard Schlenk line techniques and Glove box conditions. Additionally, it is expected to learn and use several analytical techniques to characterize the new compounds.

Positions: 1

Duration: 3 years

Essential Qualifications: B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. in Chemistry (Organometallic and/or Inorganic specialization preferred) with excellent academic record. Prior experience in X-ray Crystallography and other analytical techniques would be a plus. Candidates should have a valid NET (CSIR/UGC) or NET (LS) or GATE (>75 percentile) test score.

Title: Molecular genetic dissection of signalling pathways involved in hematopoietic niche maintenance in Drosophila
This project aims to understand how the hematopoietic niche in the larval lymph gland of Drosophila is maintained. Primarily, applying both in vivo & in vitro approaches, we are interested to understand the signaling pathways involved in this process.

Positions: 1

Duration: 3 years

Duration: 1 year

M.Sc. Physics/Biochemistry/Life Sciences (any branch) with good academic record. NET/GATE/DBT qualified candidates will be preferred.


Skills to be gained:
The candidate during the training will gain hands-on experience in 2D and 3D NMR spectroscopic techniques, Linux O/S, and various bioinformatics tools.

Title: Synthesis, Structure, and Spectroscopic Studies of Low Valent Late Transition Metal Complexes with N-arylimidoylamidine and Other Neutral Chelating Ligands
This project aims towards the development of catalysts for hydrosilylation reactions based on low valent late transition metals. Hydrosilylation is an important industrial process to convert alkenes, alkynes and other unsaturated molecules to organosilicon compounds. A student working in this project will be trained to accomplish reactions using a glove-box and standard Schlenk/vacuum line techniques. Additionally, the student will also learn how to use various spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques for characterization of reaction products and single crystal X-ray diffraction method for structure determination.

Positions: 1

Duration: 3.0 years

Essential Qualifications:
M.Sc. Chemistry with at least 6.75 CGPA on a 10 point scale or 60% marks and having passed NET (CSIR/UGC)/ NET (LS)/ GATE (>75 percentile) test.


Emoluments: As per DST rules.
I & II year - Rs. 12,000/- p.m. + HRA
III year - Rs. 14,000/- p.m. + HRA

Title: Unraveling the importance of receptor for advanced glycation end products signaling in breast cancer development and drug resistance
This project helps to understand the role of estrogens in breast cancer development and drug resistance with particularly emphasis on receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). The student aims to working in this project will get hands on experience on cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology techniques. A detail understanding of Molecular Medicine protocols will be added bonus.

Positions: 1

Duration: 2 years

Essential Qualifications:
M.Sc. in any branch of Biological/Life Science. NET/GATE qualifications are preferred but not essential. Only very hard working, highly motivated and enthusiastic students are advised to apply .

Essential Qualifications:
M.Sc. Physics/Chemistry with a good academic record and having passed NET (CSIR/UGC)/ NET (LS) test.
B.Tech. candidates with a good academic record and having passed NET(CSIR/UGC)/NET(LS) can also apply.

Desirable Qualifications:
Programming skills, computing in a Linux-based environment, familiarity with basics of NMR spectroscopy, rf based electronics, FPGA programming using Verilog/VHDL, Mathematica/Matlab packages.
